Fossilized ancient life forms and a television program that got all the women out of town were among the winners of tourism awards Friday night in Truro.
The Central Nova Tourism Association presented its Attraction Award to the one-year-old Joggins fossil cliffs and centre during the association’s 29th annual conference and awards banquet. Citations included the centre’s extensive fossil exhibit and its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Festival and Event Award went to the Colchester County village of Tatamagouche for its involvement in the CBC reality show The Week the Women Went, aired Wednesday nights. The show led to national attention for the village.
Other award winners included Truro’s Belgravia B&B, which received the Accommodation Award; Gallery 215, in the 190-year-old Selma schoolhouse, which received the Giftshop Award; Bitar’s Pizza, Pasta and Grill in Elmsdale, which collected the Food and Beverage Award; and Jost Vineyards owner Hans Christian Jost, Malagash, who won the President’s Award for his significant contribution to tourism development in Central Nova Scotia.
